At the start of 2022 Pathwaves WA staff and board started the process of developing our logo with designer and storyteller, Stacy Nguyen. Our goal was to create a visual representation that captures our identity as an organization, and the vision we have for our community today and in years to come.
The design features a wave, symbolizing our mission to build the collective power of leaders of color in early childhood policy. As they develop, waves grow and gather in strength. Alone, they can be powerful, but the collective force of the tide can have an incredible impact on the environment. No two waves are exactly the same, just as each member of our community brings their unique skills, identities, experiences, and hopes to our collective work. Together, wave after wave, they transform the landscape which is what we aim to do at Pathwaves: build leaders who will design and shape policies and transform the field to ensure our children and families thrive.
The waves in this design take the form of two hands embracing, holding each other as we build our vision together. An essential value at Pathwaves is our commitment to holding space for our Fellows, staff, and board in order to nurture the growth of each individual and our collective. It is critical that the voices and experiences of leaders of color are centered wherever decisions are being made for our communities. Our goal is to work towards a policy field that is a welcoming and inclusive space for all. Pathwaves commits to cultivating an environment where our leaders of color can exercise their power in a space created just for them.
The colors in our logo were selected for their warmth and connection to the earth. In brown, our wave design resembles the cross section of a tree trunk. We recognize that many leaders of color have come before us, creating pathways that have allowed us to grow into the leaders we are today. We also know that many will come after us, continuing to build upon Pathwaves’ work in the state of Washington and beyond. We honor those before us, and choose to live today as if the future we envision for our community is possible.
We are incredibly proud of our logo and all that it represents for us at Pathwaves. As our organization continues to grow, we know that the meaning of this symbol will only continue to develop along with us. We are eternally grateful for the support of Stacy and her team and our dedicated staff and board as we share our logo with the world!
